CONDITION AND TREATMENT OVERVIEW
Urticaria (Chronic Hives)
Living with urticaria (also known as chronic hives) can mean having to manage constant painful, itchy welts all over your body. Even simple activities like walking, sitting, and sleeping can feel agonizing. When oral medications are not enough to manage symptoms, infusion therapy for urticaria can provide relief.

What is Urticaria?
Urticaria is a condition where red, itchy welts frequently appear. These welts (hives) appear for a short time, then go away. Normally, hives are a temporary reaction to an immediate allergen. But when the welts appear for more than six months and recur over several months or years, the condition is considered chronic.
Other symptoms may include:
- Red welts (hives) that appear anywhere on the body, but commonly the torso, legs, and face
- Severe itching (that may make everyday activities painful or uncomfortable)
- Red welts that vary in size, shape, and location as the condition progresses
- Swelling of the throat, eyelids, and lips
It is not clear what specifically causes hives, as this varies from person to person. However, common triggers may be heat, exercise, stress, pain medicine, insects, food, alcohol, or pressure on the skin. The cause of chronic hives is not known.
While chronic hives do not cause serious allergic reactions, living with them can feel like agony. Fortunately, regular therapy for urticaria can provide a way to manage symptoms and enjoy a comfortable life.
